Meet the Photographer
Hi! I'm Desiree
The eye behind The Movement Edit.
Born & raised in Chicago, now based in Connecticut, my journey into photography unfolded in a way I could never have planned. It came as a beautiful and unexpected evolution. Becoming a mom to two daughters naturally introduced me back into dance as their love for the craft began at two and three years old. Watching them both grow as dancers has shaped both my perspective and my purpose as a dance photographer.
As a former dancer, I have a deep, intuitive understanding of movement into every image I create and every idea I have. Having grown up in the dance world, I know firsthand that dance is more than steps and technique — it’s emotion, storytelling, discipline, and identity.
The Movement Edit was recently created to give dancers imagery that feels elevated and editorial, while still honoring who they truly are. My style is clean, emotive, and timeless — focused on lines, light, and connection rather than trends. My goal is always the same: to freeze the feeling, not just the pose.
This is more than photography.
It’s movement, preserved.
MY APPROACH
My approach is entirely comfort-based, with gentle, intentional direction every step of the way. I believe the most powerful images come from dancers who feel confident, supported, and truly at ease in front of the camera. Rather than forcing poses, I focus on creating an environment where dancers feel empowered to move, explore, and trust themselves. Through clear guidance and encouragement, my goal is to help each dancer step into their confidence and leave the session feeling seen, capable, and proud — not just photographed.
I work closely with dancers to help them feel confident, seen, and understood in front of the camera. From competitive dancers to pre-professionals and artists building their portfolios, I approach every session with care, direction, and a dancer’s perspective — because I’ve been there too.
